Welcome

Lead with Impact. Shape the Future of Governance at Islington Council.

Paul Clarke

Acting Corporate Director of Resources (Section 151 Officer)

Dear Candidate,

I am delighted to welcome you to Islington. Thank you for your interest in our Assistant Director Internal Audit, Investigations and Risk role. I hope that through the course of this recruitment campaign, you will be inspired by the vision not just for our new Internal Audit service, but also for the Council and our borough. Over the course of my time at Islington, I have seen the commitment to making ED&I a core priority across the organisation to ensure the Council is truly representative of our diverse and vibrant borough.

As a Council, we are determined to create a more equal Islington, where everyone who lives here has an equal chance to thrive. To feed into this, we have a set of values that guide us in how we work and what we do:

·         Collaborative

·         Ambitious

·         Resourceful

·         Empowering

To us – these principles underpin what public service is all about, and we want to bring this to our residents every day.

Islington is an organisation that receives sector-wide recognition for our strong financial and cultural practices. We are proud of our working environment where our colleagues feel supported, valued and listened too. In fact, we have recently been voted one of the top 100 employers on Glassdoor based on the feedback from our employees; we were the only Local Authority on the list. Likewise, we are in a period where new ideas are coming into the organisation, revitalising priorities and reshaping structures to create a modern and efficient Council committed to maintaining financial stability. I am looking forward to hearing your ideas on how Internal Audit can play a fundamental role in this process. However, underpinning all of this is Islington Together and our commitment to equality and giving our residents, colleagues and partners the opportunity to thrive.

Our Internal Audit function was previously a shared service with Camden Council. However, we want our Internal Audit function to be truly integrated into Islington. This is a unique opportunity to make your mark on our organisation, playing a strategic role and ensuring that Internal Audit is central to the achievement of our priorities. You’ll be given the space to shape the team so that this impact can be felt across the organisation whilst working with autonomy. Alongside this, you’ll be liaising with key stakeholders, such as our Chief Executive, Leader and Chair of the Audit Committee on complex issues that will motivate and stimulate you.

I am looking forward to reading your application for this unique opportunity and talking to you about how your strategic acumen, energy and excitement will help us achieve great things for Islington. I wish you the very best of luck.

Kind regards,

Paul Clarke
