Islington Together 2030 Vision

At Islington Council, we are committed to creating a fairer, more equal future where every resident has the opportunity to thrive. Our Islington Together 2030 plan outlines how we will foster equality and improve the lives of all those who live and work in our borough.

We are focusing on the following key areas to tackle inequality:

  • Poverty and Affordability – Ensuring everyone has the financial means to access essentials for a good life.

  • Quality of Life – Providing the resources and opportunities for people to live, learn, work, and thrive in supportive and enriching environments.

  • Power and Influence – Empowering residents to have a genuine say in the decisions that impact their lives and communities.

Our Strategic Priorities

  • Child-Friendly Islington
By 2030, we envision Islington as a place where all children and young people grow up in a community that fosters safety, opportunity, and leadership.

  • Fairer Together
We are committed to working with our community to address inequality, focusing on early intervention and preventative measures for long-term positive change.

  • A Safe Place to Call Home
Our goal is to ensure that by 2030, every resident of Islington has access to a safe, decent, and genuinely affordable home.

  • Community Wealth Building
We are focused on reducing economic inequality by creating a local economy that benefits all residents.

  • Greener, Healthier Islington
We aim to create a community where residents live healthy, independent lives in London’s greenest, cleanest, and most vibrant neighbourhoods by 2030.

Creating a More Equal Future for Islington

At Islington Council, we are dedicated to eliminating discrimination and fostering a sense of belonging. Our work is guided by a deep commitment to equality, diversity, and community cohesion in every aspect of what we do.

We focus on addressing inequalities related to socio-economic status and other protected characteristics through:

  • Setting clear equality objectives to address key inequality issues in Islington.

  • Designing services based on robust evidence and monitoring equality data to ensure equitable access for all residents.

  • Conducting Resident Impact Assessments (RIAs) to evaluate how our decisions affect different equality groups.

Equality for Our Employees

We are committed to providing an inclusive, supportive work environment for all our employees. Our policies ensure equality of opportunity, dignity at work, and a healthy work-life balance through flexible working arrangements. We also pay the London Living Wage as a minimum.

Recent analysis of our Pay Gap Report indicates strong representation of women in senior roles. While we have made significant progress, we continue to work on areas where we can improve, taking proactive steps to further enhance equality across our workforce.
